Irrigation Automation Project

The BFID is currently in the process of automating several flow-measuring structures and check structures along the main North and South Canals in the District and severl laterals.  To date, there are 22 automated check structures (of which 8 are real-time), along with 4 real-time automated head gates and 17 real-time automated flow measurement devices.  The real-time structures are able to be viewed online by District personnel and are used as an aid in determining dam releases and other management decisions.  By automating the check structures, more efficient delivery is possible.  The automated checks are programmed to maintain a water level that is set by District personnel.  This water level is maintained by moving gates up or down to respond to fluctuations in delivery.
